Wooster School's 95th Convocation
Posted 09/22/2020 02:15PM

On Friday, September 18, 2020, the official start to Wooster School's 95th year began. As is our tradition, we came together as a community for Convocation. This year, we gathered a bit differently than we have in the past, and provided a broadcast of the event via Zoom for all to watch. However, seniors were able to attend in-person on Coburn Lawn.

Head of School, Matt Byrnes, welcomed the community and then introduced Tori Ingulli, Senior Prefect, who led everyone in the school prayer. Continuing in a time honored tradition, Senior Prefect, Anastasia Wei, led everyone in the reciting of the School Honor Code. Tradition continued as we celebrated Crayons to Commencement. Students who began their Wooster School careers in the Lower School, and are now seniors, were recognized. The eleven seniors were each presented with a box of crayons, symbolic of their early days on the campus of Wooster School.

The students recognized were: Brandon Caraballo, Darby Drahzal, Sean Fullerton, Thomas Holloway, Ben Honeycutt, Tori Ingulli, Charlotte Kaczmarek, Michael Lynch, William Russell, Emma Shorten, and Caroline Weaver.

Mr. Byrnes then shared some remarks with the community, "Convocation every year, regardless of the conditions, is a calling together of the community." He added, "This is what humans do. Last spring, we made the best of distance learning, but nearly everyone I have spoken to felt that something was missing. The connection. The presence. The everyday interactions. Without them, our worlds were markedly less fulfilling. The meaning of things harder to come by. So, maybe being together is not a means to an end, but the end itself? If that is true, then we are lucky to be together in this moment, and for this school year, here at Wooster School, regardless of the conditions and challenges."
