The American Classical League, a professional organization for classicists, sponsors annually the National Latin Exam, a standardized Latin test for high school students.

This year, 19 Wooster Middle School students took the 2018 National Latin Exam, joining more than 150,000 students from around the world. Seven Wooster School students received honors on the National Latin Exam.

The philosophy of the National Latin Exam is predicated on providing every Latin student the opportunity to experience a sense of personal accomplishment and success in his study of the Latin language and culture. This opportunity exists for each individual student since, on the National Latin Exam, he is not competing with his fellow student on a comparative basis, but is evaluated solely on his own performance on the exam. The basic purposes of the NLE are to promote the study of Latin and to encourage the individual student.

Wooster School winners this year are as follows:

Latin 2 Exam

Julong Williams, summa cum laude with gold medal
Matthew Reeves, maxima cum laude with silver medal
Stephen Mayer, magna cum laude
Alex Ancona, cum laude

Latin 1 Exam

Aria Coe, maxima cum laude with silver medal
Chiara Bakalar, maxima cum laude with silver medal
Harlan Keller, magna cum laude

Wooster commends all of the students who took this examination for their extra effort.
