2017-2018 Annual Report
A Message from Leon Weaver, President, Board of Trustees
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I'd like to thank the parents of Wooster School for their generous support of last year's Annual Appeal, Gala, and gifts.
Our Annual Appeal is our most important fundraising effort of the year. This fund helps to finance our operating budget and sustain other programs. It is imperative that all members of the Wooster community participate in this endeavor as it demonstrates a tangible commitment to the school. I can report to you that the Annual Appeal campaign raised over $555,000 with participation from over 430 separate donors.
The sold out Gala with 220 enthusiastic Wooster supporters in attendance netted over $220,000. This year's Gala also provided the Wooster community an opportunity to honor the long time Wooster institution Gaynor O'Neill, who retired after 36 years at our school.
During her career Gaynor worked under 8 headmasters, chaperoned well over 30 overnight field trips, and influenced thousands of students. She wore many hats from the heads' secretary, development office, health office, school events caterer, chaperone, 8th grade graduation video creator, and her favorite, middle school advisor. She was also fundamental to the success of several community-based initiatives including the annual Toys for Tots holiday campaign, and the middle school Holiday Bazaar.
Gaynor credits much of who she is today to the children of Wooster School. As Gaynor has always said, "it's all about the kids." Kids are the center of who she is and what she does and this has earned her the overwhelming respect of our parent and student body. Many thanks to her for her many efforts and we wish her well.
Other endowments and major gifts last year included, the upgrade to McAlister Building facade and patio (made possible with support from the Class of 1967) and with the generous support of current parents and alumni, I can report to you that after a 30+ year absence the Wooster ice hockey program returned to the ice.
Summer projects included, the transformation of the Verdery Library into the Verdery Learning Commons, creating a Lower School Library within the Lower School, and a cafe space in the Dining Room Annex.
I'd also like to thank many of school's international parents for their generous donations in transformation of the Whipple Science Building by refurbishing and upgrading the Biology and Chemistry labs.
It is tremendous work like this and with your continued help, we can create an extraordinary environment for your children. Thank you for your continued investment and commitment to the Wooster community and remember as Gaynor says, "it’s all about the kids!"
