On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the official start to Wooster School’s 99th year began. As is our tradition, we came together as a community for Convocation, and this year on Coburn Lawn.
Head of School, Matt Byrnes, welcomed the community and then introduced Marley Dixon, Senior Prefect, who led everyone in the school prayer. Continuing in a time honored tradition, Senior Prefect, Elloit Rosen, led everyone in the reciting of the School Honor Code. Tradition continued as we celebrated Crayons to Commencement, which recognizes seniors who have continuously attended Wooster since Lower School. The eight seniors were each presented with a box of crayons, symbolic of their early days on the campus of Wooster School.
The students recognized were: Gus Aspillaga, Brady Carpenter, Ava Cilento, Elliot Esposito, Vega Farro, Alexandra Kriegel, Charlotte Purkiss, and Alex Xanthos.
Mr. Byrnes then shared some remarks with the community, “The fact that we are all gathered here today, celebrating the start of a new year of community - committing to the values brought forth by our honor code - committing to each other really - is proof that the world still has a place for people who truly believe that we need to be together to thrive, to feel safe, and to learn how to be good.” He added, “We know that you all want to be good people. We know it. You need to know it too. And you need to help others believe it too. And then you need to do the work. ”
Convocation concluded with a musical presentation which was performed by Upper School musicians, singers, and faculty members.
