More information about the Halo Awards
Seven Angels Theatre, Greater Waterbury’s only Equity Professional Theatre, is preparing for our 18th Annual High School HALO Awards! The HALOS is the biggest High School Theatre Award Program in Connecticut, honoring student participation in all areas of high school theatre throughout the state.
The HALOS recognizes the contributions of students, and ONLY students, to their high school theatre programs. It is also the only program to recognize ALL aspects of theatre: not just musicals but plays, technical theatre, design and more.
In 2003, Seven Angels Theatre, a non-profit Equity regional theatre in Waterbury, joined with 12 high schools in the Greater Waterbury area to establish this program. Last season, the program included 62 schools divided into two divisions, primarily along geographical lines. Once you register the program, the HALO Awards Committee will send a theatre representative to each production your school registers. That adjudicator submits an evaluation. Teachers/Directors are asked to submit a Production Detail Form that allows you to share pertinent information that might not be visible to the naked eye. Lastly, we request a simple DVD of each production as a reference only so that other judges can view the show and compare their own observations to the primary evaluation. At the end of the school year, the volunteer judges meet to share their observations and produce a slate of nominees in each category. These professional volunteers are committed to unbiased recognition of the many aspects that go into a production. They work hard to make sure that all talent is recognized and all schools are acknowledged and honored.
