Early Middle School
The Early Middle School Program at Wooster is a one or two year program for 5th and 6th grade students.
In line with the unique developmental needs of ten to twelve year olds, students have endless opportunities to learn in small, blended groups across the arts, athletics, and academics. Hands-on and interactive, our program takes advantage of the natural environment of our 127 acre campus. The curriculum engages students and helps them find their intrinsic motivation to learn. More broadly, EMS serves as an inclusive community where everyone has a place. It is the foundation of lifelong learning skills and confidence, and the ideal segue into 7th grade and beyond.

The EMS Program incorporates a diversity of co-curricular experiences to develop essential skills. Through project-based learning experiences, the EMS co-curriculars complement and expand upon student learning in the core academic areas. The co-curricular coursework includes Art, Makerspace, Spanish, Music, and Physical Education.
The EMS Program utilizes a looping curricular design, enabling students to enroll in this program for 1 or 2 years. We organize content and concepts into “even/odd” years. Core academics include Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science.
