Girls Varsity Soccer Ends Week One 1-1

Girls Varsity Soccer Ends Week One 1-1

The Girls Varsity Soccer season began after their first game of the season against Harvey on this past Monday, Sept. 14. The game ended with a 6-0 loss, but they bounced back on Thursday, Sept. 18, with a 4-0 win against EF Academy.

With a long season ahead, the team has so much more time to adjust. Last season, the team ended with a 9-5 record. Although the scoreboard did not always reflect it, last year was a great season of teamwork, effort and improvement.

Girls Varsity Soccer Coach Matt has hopes for his second season with the team.

“I hope we can continue to grow stronger as a team, and hopefully make it to HVALs!” said Coach Matt.

The girls soccer team has already improved so much and continues to get better each day at practice. Captain and senior Sadie is proud of our team's teamwork skills and how much effort each player puts in each day.

“Everyone comes to practice each day ready to learn and get better, which is really nice to see,” said Sadie.

If our team continues to work together and communicate, then the team will have a great rest of their season with many more fun games and practices ahead!

Girls Varsity Soccer's 2026 Captains: Ivy, Sadie and Allison

The team has three captains, Ivy ’28, Allison ’27 and Sadie ’27, who all work together to help the team alongside Coach Matt. This is Sadie's second year as captain, and she has learned new things about what it means to lead at Wooster.

“Being a soccer captain shifts your focus from your own behavior and performance to the team's, making you realize that your job is to keep everyone connected and organized,” she said. “You start noticing the little things, like who needs encouragement after a mistake or how to adjust the positions during a game to keep the group cohesive.”

Crosby ’27 joined the team her junior season and always brings her strong work ethic and humour to practices and games.

“The team dynamic and bond are so strong. We are all so supportive of each other and always lend each other a helping hand,” Crosby said.

The team is so close, which makes practices and games more enjoyable for everyone. With the strong bond and so much time left in the season, everyone is looking forward to continuous growth. With many returning players and new members joining the team, the team is still adjusting to different playing styles and positions.

Overall, the Wooster girls soccer team is off to a great start and is looking forward to the rest of the season. Come support them on our own home turf for their next home game on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 2 p.m.!
