The Wooster Fall play 2026 - 2027, “Puffs” by Matt Cox, is a spoof on Harry Potter that revolves around the Hufflepuff House. In the original Harry Potter books and movies, the Gryffindor house is the main house, but “Puffs” provides an alternative perspective. Tech’s role in theatre is to make the stage come to life with the sets, costumes, and more.
Technical theatre departments:
- Costumes
- Lights
- Construction
- Sound
- Set Design
- Stage management
- Run crew
- Painting
- Props
I asked upperclassmen in tech about their roles in technical theatre at Wooster.
Gabe ’28: Gabe is the head of construction in tech. “I divide and conquer by communicating and planning with my peers.” For construction, “there is no one set process for building something in the theater, as more often than not the things we are building are a bit strange and weird and require specialized planning, such as when we made it rain in the theatre (for “Sometimes The Rain, and Sometimes the Sea.”) He conquers and divides work with his peers. The process is long, with a lot of designing and building, but it is worth it to see the end result.
Leo ’28: Leo is also a member of the construction team. “Knowing your way around tools like the saw or drill can help in real-life situations, and because I love making things, especially when workarounds are often needed.” He has learned many skills when it comes to teamwork: “There’s something special about tech, maybe it’s the people themselves.” Overall, he wants to make a community bigger than himself, and it starts with picking up a drill.
Donna ’28: Donna is the head of the sound department because it is similar to being in music production. “I found it fun to work directly with the sound system.” Even though it is her first time being in tech for high school, she has done it in middle school and has seen the production change throughout the years. “Sometimes you will find one area is more fun than the rest, and with years you will learn to be an expert in that field like many of the seniors you will look up to, but for now take it slow and learn all the basics and try new things.”
The tech team works hard to put on the shows and make them enjoyable for the Wooster community.
