This year's football season has already begun. Football at Wooster looks a little different, with a co-op team with The Harvey School. Athletes are given the opportunity to play with people they may not be used to being around.

This experience allows students to still participate in sports that Wooster might not have here on campus, and get the chance to go off campus when it's time for afternoon activities. The football players leave at 2:30 p.m., three days a week, and go straight to Harvey's field where they practice for upcoming games.
Since these athletes are missing their last period class at school, being able to balance their schoolwork is an important part of navigating the fall season. This is junior Trey's second season playing with Harvey, and in order to stay on top of his schoolwork, he uses his own time outside of school to connect with teachers and get work done. Jack ‘28, who has been playing Football since freshman year, has learned how to manage his schoolwork by making a plan on how he'll get it done.
“I miss three classes a week. Last period on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, but I communicate with my teachers and ask if I can get extensions if I need to,” Jack said.
Being part of a team outside of school is exciting for the students because they get to know other people with the same interests. Getting treated like teammates is why a lot of students at Wooster love to play with Harvey.
“Playing at Harvey is fun because you get to meet new people and play a sport for a different school," said Trey.

Something else that Jack enjoys about the team is how much he's learned throughout the different seasons. Jack mentioned all of the amazing coaches and teammates that are there and have always been there helping him grow as a player and learn football in general. Jack was new to football when he first joined, and having so many people there to teach him helped him improve.
“I didn't know anything about football before, but I got to learn because the coaches are extremely nice and helpful, and so are my teammates," said Jack.
Although being part of this team requires missing some time in class, these athletes put a lot of work into balancing their schoolwork with sports, and just as much work into their practices to get ready for games.
Wooster's next home game is on Saturday, Oct. 12, where they will play The Frederick Gunn School. Make sure to come support them if you can at 3:00 pm at Harvey!
