The boys' varsity soccer season started September fourteenth with their first victory: a 3-1 win against Watkinson. After two consecutive losses to The Harvey School in the HVAL finals, the soccer team aims to address their shortcomings and win HVAL this season. To see how the soccer team plans to get over the hurdle of the HVAL finals, we asked head coach Greg and the captains of the team, Will, Mateo, Luke, and Yiorgos, what will be different this year in order to win the finals.

“I want to aid the team as much as I can, score goals, contribute assists, and just be a team player,” said Mateo.
Wooster continued its winning streak with a 2-0 home win on Sept. 16 against reigning champions and rivals Harvey. Then, on Wednesday, they earned a decisive win against Forman, taking the boys to 4-0 for the season. Unfortunately, Wooster fell to Christian Heritage School on Friday, Sept. 25, with a 3-2 loss.
Greg Grosett has been the Boys' Varsity Soccer head coach for the last 4 years. They lost in the HVAL finals for the last 2 years. In 2024, Wooster boys soccer scored a last-second goal to tie the game, but Harvey responded with a golden-goal winner, stunning the team.
Coach Greg emphasized the importance of winning, closing the chapter behind us, and going for it all.
“Our goal is to win the HVAL tournament,” Greg said.
He is focused on taking a step in the right direction every game and getting better and better until the team finds its stride.
It's clear that the mentality between the coaches and captains is the same: to win HVALs. The Generals will go into the rest of the season with ample evidence that this year will be different.
“My [team] goal and my personal goal is that I just want to see that trophy, no more runner-ups; I just want to see the win for Wooster,” said Luke.
