Hello, welcome back! We are the PitchSide Report, providing updates on recent soccer games. We analyze games and what has been happening in the soccer community. We will share a few fun facts about the beautiful game.
Premier League
Now we go to the Premier League, where Arsenal and Manchester City are in a very tight title race, with City 6 points behind and a game in hand, while Manchester United has already secured Champions League football after a dramatic 3–2 win over Liverpool. Kobbie Mainoo just signed a new deal last week, and last weekend he went on to score a winner in the northwest derby with 13 minutes to go. Tottenham’s struggles continue despite finally earning their first league win of 2026 last week versus Wolves, who have already been relegated alongside Burnley. Tottenham beat Aston Villa 2-1 with goals from Conner Gallagher and Richarlison to climb out of the relegation zone as West Ham lost on Saturday to Brentford 3-0. Elsewhere, Leeds have nearly guaranteed survival, Chelsea have sacked manager Liam Rosenior after a run of poor results, and Wolves have been officially relegated.
Serie A
AC Milan’s title push stalled after a costly 2–0 defeat to Sassuolo, allowing Inter to win against Parma and win the scudetto for the first time since 2024. Juventus continued their inconsistent form, drawing 1- 1 with Hellas Verona. Roma and Napoli remained locked in a tight battle for the final Champions League spot. At the bottom of the table, as Inter wins the Scudetto, Roma and Napoli are fighting for Europe.
La Liga
La Liga has been a rough one this season. Barcelona is in the lead with 85 points, and Real Madrid is trailing with 74 points. There is no way for Real Madrid to come back since Barcelona has won all five of their last games. The top scorer is, of course, the man himself, Kylian Mbappe, with 24 goals. Leading the assists is one of the best players right now. At just 18 years old, Lamine Yamal is leading the assists chart with 11. Unfortunately, Yamal sustained a season-ending injury to his left hamstring. He is expected to recover before the start of the World Cup.
Champions League
The Champions League has been a wild one this season, with big teams getting dethroned. To start, Atletico Madrid played Barcelona, beating them 2-0 with a brilliant free-kick goal to the top corner of the net from J. Alvarez and a hard side volley from A. Sorloth. What led up to the free kick was a push from outside the box, Cubarsi. Right after this, the ref gave him a straight red, sending him off. In the second leg, Barcelona came back with two early goals from Lemine Yamal and Ferran Torres. Then, in the 31st minute of the game, Atletico Madrid took an opportunity to break the defensive line and gave Lookman a tap-in to make the game 3-2.
Meanwhile, Liverpool played PSG, with PSG showing no mercy, scoring 2 goals and leaving Liverpool empty-handed. The next match did not change either, with PSG scoring another 2 goals to send Liverpool home and them into the semi-finals. Bayern destroyed Real Madrid, beating them in the first leg 2-1. In the next leg, it was an intense game with goals from both sides, but Bayern just could not be beaten, taking Real Madrid out 4-3. On Tuesday, PSG played Bayern in a thrilling 5-4 win. The game went back and forth until the 40th minute. PSG went up 5-2, but the Bundesliga champions did not give up and scored three goals in just 25 minutes. On Wednesday, Arsenal faced Atletico Madrid and were both awarded penalties, resulting in a 1-1 draw. May 6th, Arsenal played a rough match against Atletico Madrid, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal from the Englishman Saka. PSG beat Bayern with a 1-1 draw, leaving PSG 6-5 on aggregate. Arsenal and PSG are now in the final, playing each other on May 30th in Hungary.
Bundesliga
The champions, Bayern Munich, have done it again, winning the Bundesliga for their 35th time. Bayern Munich has shown great confidence, giving them a 15-point lead over second-place Dortmund. Bayern played Stuttgart, winning 4-2 to clinch the title. Harry Kane, Bayern's star striker at 32 years old, is leading the goal statistics with 32. On the other hand, teams that dominated last year, like Bayer Leverkusen, are down in the dumps. Leverkusen spent approximately 198 million euros in the transfer market to only place 6th in the Bundesliga title race. Michael Olise is considered one of the world's greatest, leading the assists charts with a whopping 18. This season, Bayern has been dominating from the start and clearly deserves to win the title.
