MLB spring training is upon us, just after is the MLB regular season. Even though the season ended four months ago, it feels like it just ended last week, and time is moving quickly.
Since the end of the season on Nov. 1, 2025, when the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series, there has been no baseball played, but a lot has happened. Between Oct. 29 and Nov. 2, teams were focused on re-signing their valuable players, other than the two competing in the World Series. Some key players who eventually re-signed were Cody Bellinger with the Yankees, Trent Grisham with the Yankees and Gleyber Torres with the Detroit Tigers.
Then, on Nov. 6, free agency started with some players looking for new teams. The four biggest names in free agency were Kyle Tucker OF, Framber Valdez SP, Edwin Díaz RP, and Pete Alonso 1B. Kyle Tucker shocked the baseball world by joining the Los Angeles Dodgers instead of the New York Mets.
Tucker’s contract with the Dodgers created a domino effect among the other teams, prompting the New York Mets to trade for an outfielder named Luis Robert Jr. OF, and the next afternoon, Cody Bellinger re-signed with the Yankees instead of the Mets. There is speculation that Cody Bellinger said something to the Mets after Kyle Tucker signed with the Dodgers, prompting the Mets to trade for Luis Robert Jr.
As the months progressed, the executives held winter meetings, which included trade negotiations, free-agent signings, and the MLB draft lottery. Now we are in spring training, when players are being evaluated, especially the non-roster invitees. These are players not currently on a team who have been invited to compete for a spot. The NRIs will have a chance to show whether they deserve a spot.
It will be an exciting season because some new faces will emerge, shaking up the MLB in 2026.
The MLB regular season starts on March 25 with the New York Yankees vs San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. The rest will be the next afternoon, with 14 games slated.
