New Courses for 2026-27

Class registration just closed and students got to pick from a lot of great courses, including over a dozen new ones!  There are so many new classes that it's a great time to learn about those classes and what they will be like, especially the new ones.

US History Through Pop Culture is a spring trimester G-period course taught by Mr. Mancini. The class structure will be a mixture of discussions and hands-on work covering the roaring twenties all the way to modern day. Mr. Mancini plans for students to analyze famous films, look at how social media responds to current US events and compare and contrast trends.

“I think the type of student who is curious, wants to build connections between the trends we see and how history moves forward in the US, and wants to have fun,” Mr. Mancini shared. “I think people will be surprised about the level of reading and writing they do because it is a history class, not just watching videos.” So, for those who are taking this class, be prepared to analyze many sources and use critical thinking to draw conclusions.

DLI Editorial Leadership, Ethics and Media Studies is an english class taught by Ms. Newman, the journalism teacher. Because the class meets once a week, Ms. Newman decided that some of the work would be asynchronous and would be split between discussions and hands-on work.

“[Students should be] passionate about journalism and particularly in the ethical questions that the industry is facing right now,” she said. “Students will be leading the direction of WiNK and will also guide the conversations we will have in class. The class might cover editing styles, communications law and the evolving business of journalism.” So if you are taking this class, be ready to collaborate with journalism students across all levels.

Dragons, Detectives and Dystopias is an english class taught by Mr Wolfson based on a previous Wooster class called “From Mordor to Marvel to Mars,” which was available two years ago. This class will be a mix of science fiction and mystery. According to Mr. Wolfson, “It will be a very reading-intensive class. I’m trying to get students to pick up more books and get interested in fiction.” His goals for this class are to inspire through the books they read and hopefully make them like reading more. So if you are a big fiction reader, you will enjoy this class very much.

DLI Language Analysis and Power is an english class also taught by Mr. Wolfson. Although this class has existed previously, it has not been available for three years.

“I try to design this class for students who care about the real world and making positive social change because it covers social and political power, basically looking at systems,” he said. “I remember one year I had kids make a poster where they used the tools they learned from the first trimester, which was about structures of power and connecting that to fiction and real-world issues.” This class is about drawing connections between reality and fantasy when it comes to power structures.
