Wooster is full of remarkable teachers who some of the community may not know. Each faculty member brings their unique personality, and it is important to highlight the contributions they make to Wooster.
For this feature, we are highlighting Mr. Fischer, the ultimate frisbee coach, Esports coach and science teacher. He brings his positive energy to the school every day, both in and out of the classroom. He has inspired many of his students and will continue to positively impact the Wooster community.
Mr. Fischer joined Wooster in 2022, making this his fourth year teaching. Teaching was not always his plan and he didn’t end up wanting to be a teacher until his junior year of college. Now, he teaches a wide range of classes, including Advanced Chemistry, Advanced Physics, Conceptual Physics, Biology, and his own class, DLI I Am a Scientist. Out of all of these classes, his favorite one to teach is his DLI because he enjoys teaching and learning about challenging social norms in the STEM field.
When I asked Mr. Fischer what he is most proud of in his teaching career, he mentioned two things. One was being able to teach all three types of sciences and two, creating his own class from scratch.
Outside of the classroom, Mr. Fischer is involved in almost every aspect of the community at Wooster. He coaches both the Esports team and the Ultimate Frisbee team, supervises fall sports and even adds to the chapel band by occasionally playing the saxophone! Coaching at Wooster has given him some of his favorite memories, first being when the Ultimate Frisbee team won the state championship back-to-back years. Mr. Fischer also mentioned that his favorite part of coaching a team at Wooster is “seeing different people who are more reserved in the classroom come out of their shell in sports.”
The Wooster community appreciates the positive impact Mr. Fischer makes every day, and his dedication to his students doesn’t go unnoticed!
