Do You Make a Summer Bucket List?

Do You Make a Summer Bucket List?

As summer approaches, many people begin to anticipate goals and accomplishments they hope to achieve during their time off. Whether this may mean finally reading that “To Be Read” stack of books, taking hikes, or finally going to that restaurant you have been trying to get a reservation for, many people turn to bucket lists to organize their goals.

Members of the Wooster community are no exception. In a survey of 123 students and faculty, 60% said they make summer bucket lists. However, only about 20% said they follow through.

While bucket lists are created with great intentions, many people find it difficult to follow through with them. This can be attributed to busy schedules, changing priorities, lack of motivation, or unrealistic expectations, all of which prevent these goals from being accomplished.

“My friends and I used to make a bunch of bucket lists, because we were inspired by Pinterest,” Hailey ’27 said. “Even though we make one every summer, we only end up doing one or two things on the list. Through the years, they have accumulated in my closet.”

Despite not always being sustainable, 89% of respondents who have made bucket lists find them enjoyable. Whether you follow through with them or not, the fun of making a bucket list may be worth it.
