Care Pack Pals Club Delivers Baskets to the Bennett Cancer Center

This fall, I founded the Care Pack Pals Club to raise money for different organizations in need and create packages or baskets with requested items to help provide support. The club hosted a Halloween Bake sale, which raised over $300 for patients receiving chemotherapy at the Bennett Cancer Center at Stamford Hospital.

Students in the upper and middle schools at Wooster were able to enjoy some freshly baked treats while giving back to an incredible cause! Over the winter, the club was in contact with the hospital and created over 60 packages full of requested supplies to help patients through such a difficult and scary time period. Last week, Dr. Taraz and I were fortunate enough to be able to deliver these packages in person to the hospital and get a small tour of the cancer center that they are planning to expand in the upcoming months!

Students involved in the club decorated bookmarks, made get-well cards, and incorporated specific snacks and utilities to help ease the experience for those receiving these gifts. During the tour, I learned about a bell that patients are able to ring once they finish treatment as an accomplishment and a stepping stone in their journey. I found this to be so meaningful and special. The Bennett Cancer Center also has an indoor garden space, which is gorgeous, where patients are able to sit and relax in a more calming atmosphere. They are additionally adding two new levels to the indoor garden when they plan to expand and renovate.

As the school year winds down, the Care Pack Pals club has exciting new plans coming up! We are already considering working with Stamford Hospital and the Bennett Cancer Center again, participating in the annual “Hope in Motion” walk in June as it celebrates its 30th anniversary for Cancer research and celebrates its survivors.
