The final girls’ athlete spotlight of the winter trimester goes to Kathryn ’26.
Kathryn has no doubt made a huge impact on the girls’ basketball team, as a two-year captain and four-year varsity player. She led the team with her passion for the sport and love for the team. Every day at practice, she always showed up and created a welcoming environment for everyone, and held her head high.
Despite a loss in the HVAL playoffs to Harvey, she gave her all the whole game and believed in her team until the very end. She led the team in points and assists per game throughout the season and led the girls to many victories over tough opponents.
“Kathryn has been a great captain and leads by example at practice, during games, and off the court,” Coach Carone said. “Her incredible effort level, drive to compete, and willingness to get all of her teammates involved all contribute to Kathryn being a great leader. She has been so much fun to coach. Kathryn is exactly the type of player and person that keeps me wanting to coach every day. Her impact on the team has been awesome as she encourages her teammates to work hard but have fun.”
Kathryn's impact on the team, in and out of the gym, has helped the girls’ basketball program grow to a record number of girls participating each season.
Kathryn was nominated for the NEPSAC All-Star Game, which proves how much her hard work has paid off.
“Kathryn is the hardest-working, driven, and kindest person I have ever met,” Avery ’27 said. “Transferring into Wooster, I was nervous about what the sports were going to be like. Kathryn made sure that I was truly a part of the team quickly. I’m so sad to see her leave because I don’t think there will ever be a better captain than Kathryn.”
Her teammates all love her and the energy she brings, and they are going to miss her next year. They all agreed she is the heart of their team and never fails to bring a smile to everyone's face.

The boys’ athlete spotlight is going to Christian ’26, a captain of the varsity basketball team.
Christian has been on the varsity team since ninth grade and has brought so much hard work and dedication to the team. He was the only freshman starter, showing how much talent he has for the sport.
However, it’s not just Christian’s talent that makes him an amazing player; it’s his work ethic and determination on the court that have gotten him so far. This work ethic makes him a role model for his teammates as he truly leads by example and pushes the rest of his team to work harder.
“If you’re down a bucket or two, Christian is the guy to get it done and get his team in the lead,” Christian’s co-captain Sean ’26 said. In a sport like basketball, where every point matters during a close game, Christian’s playstyle helps his team tremendously.
In the HVAL semifinals game against Harvey, Christian once again led his team, playing with composure and resilience. Although they didn’t get the result they were hoping for, they played a great game and had an overall very successful season.
Congratulations, Christian and Kathryn!
