Every year, Spirit Week is a momentous occasion for students to dress in fun clothes, get out of their comfort zones, and show spirit for our community. The themes are always ones where we can be creative, and show personalities while also matching with friends or entire grade levels. Specifically, on the volleyball team bus, there was some reminiscing with alum and now J.V volleyball coach, Lulu Carone, who was talking to us about what themes there were when she was a student. During our video this week, we asked people what Spirit Week theme they would choose, if given the chance. Although nobody chose Salad Dressing Day, after the official themes came out on Tuesday, there has been a lot of excitement and planning around what people are going to wear. For the four days of next school week, we have Minion Day on Monday; followed by Socks, Crocs, and Birkenstocks Day; Salad Dressing Day where every grade level is assigned a different theme that matches a common salad dressing. Some of them include blue cheese, where students dress in blue; ranch, which lets Seniors and 5th graders wear fun cowboy boots; and 1000 Island, letting those grade levels dress in tropical attire. Finally, for a climactic finish to represent school spirit, we have Wooster Wear Day!! Additionally, on Friday there is a community lunch, and fun school wide lawn games to celebrate the end of school Spirit Week and start of Homecoming weekend.
During Homecoming on Saturday, athletes, alumni, families, faculty, and student supporters will gather to celebrate our teams, and the importance of congregating together as a school community. Throughout the day, JV and Varsity Volleyball teams will face Watkinson School, Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer will take on Williams School, and Varsity Cross Country will compete against both schools. The day is filled with enthusiastic cheering, student volunteers who contribute to make the day as fun as possible, competitive games, and a delicious food truck (the Waffle Truck - bring money!). Wooster’s community extends past current students and faculty, because alums are still active members of their high school alma-matter, and days like Homecoming reassure the love we all share for this school.
