Homecoming 2023 Recap

Homecoming 2023 Recap

On Saturday, October 14, 2023, Wooster School welcomed back dozens of Generals from the past. Class representatives spanned from our most recent Alumni who just graduated in 2023, to those who crossed the stage to accept their diplomas in 1961. A true testament to the day was that there was multiple alumnus from every decade in between.

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, the cold temperatures and rain failed to keep our alumni, students, parents, and visiting teams away.  For we all know, rain or shine, our Wooster Campus is beautiful, and our Wooster Community never disappoints.

Events for the day were carefully scheduled allowing intimate times for classmates to leisurely catch up during brunch and lunch.  Of course, moments of reflection took center stage during the day, no moment more resounding than during our Service of Remembrance, where we quietly took the time in the Chapel to remember those Wooster Generals we had lost.  For those unable to attend, please visit here to see the names of those recognized.

Throughout the event, there were numerous opportunities for Alumni to interact with current students, hear from faculty about our new Beekeeping Program, scour through our new Archive Space in Grover, or catch one of the many athletic events.  A special display was on hand marking the 50 Years of Woman Students at Wooster School, an incredible feat!  Curious about what the day looked like, click here to see the Homecoming 2023 schedule of events.  Make sure to check out some photos embedded in the schedule.

Closing out the day was our Alumni Awards and Reception held in our Alumni Gym and Reception Center.  This year we honored two incredible female alumni, both who have committed themselves to the greater good, and who, through both their personal and professional lives, carried on the core values of Wooster School to be “gentle, generous, truthful, kind and brave.”  Siena Napoleon ‘05 was the recipient of The John B. Cheeseman Young Alumni Award which is bestowed upon an alumni from the last 20 years.  Siena has selflessly committed her career to the public health sector.  Our Alumni Award was presented to Julia Lee ‘83, who, since graduating, has not only attended EVERY Homecoming but professionally served our Country as a member of our Homeland Security Department, to name one. Visit here to read in more detail about our awardees.

Being a part of the Wooster Community is a gift to us all, one that is palpable during Homecoming. We hope to see you next Fall, on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

In 1969, Wooster School announced to its community that after more than 40 years as an all-boys school, it would become co-educational; and then in July 1970, it was official, as Wooster advertised in local newspapers: “Wooster’s 45th year as a college preparatory school this September will include an expanded day student division for both boys and girls.”

As college application deadlines approach in early November, the entire Wooster School community rallies around our graduating senior class. Beyond mere encouragement and well wishes, however, the entire school – from classroom teachers, to coaches, to support staff and administrators – shifts its attention and workflow for one entire day to contribute to a workshop designed to help seniors put the finishing touches on their college admission materials.
