International Students

Wooster School is pleased to welcome international students to northern Fairfield County, Connecticut. Moving from one culture to another involves a lot of change, and we hope to make the transition as smooth as possible. We welcome the learning and growth that international students bring to our community.

In the 2023-24 School Year, thirteen Wooster students, ranging from grades 7-12, are from China. 

Over the past four years, more than 20 International students have graduated from Wooster. They are attending the following colleges and universities:

Wooster School strongly encourages entry into the 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th grade for international students. Exceptions are made on occasion for well qualified students interested in other grades. Please inquire for more information.

Wooster School requires all international students to take our College Preparatory Language Course (also referred to as ESL). It is our commitment to you that you will leave with a higher level of mastery of your English skills than when you arrived at Wooster School.

Students coming from China are also required to provide a TOEFL or TOEFL Jr. score. Wooster's required scores are:

  • For 7th/8th graders: 70 TOEFL/770 TOEFL Jr.
  • For 9th graders: 80 TOEFL/825 TOEFL Jr.
  • For 10th graders: 85 TOEFL/850 TOEFL Jr.
  • For 11th graders: 90 TOEFL

We proudly partner with APEX International Education Partners (APEX) to provide international students with local homestays, guardianship, monitoring, and representation. APEX offers full support to ensure a successful and memorable experience for international students, their parents abroad, their partner schools, and the host families they live with. Host families receive a generous monthly stipend per student, and a one-time sign-on bonus is available for Educators. APEX is American-owned, is CSIET accredited, employs staff locally in Connecticut, and operates with complete transparency and strict adherence to the highest ethical standards.
