Wooster Community Art Program (WCAP) was established in 1965 as a non-profit organization through funding provided by a grant from The Ford Foundation. Distinguished professional artists who are also experienced teachers have offered a wide range of art classes to a diverse population from approximately 35 surrounding towns. As a community outreach organization of Wooster School, WCAP has been committed to providing quality art instruction and cultural awareness to the populations it serves.

Although art classes have been temporarily discontinued at the Wooster School Art Center, the ceramic facilities continue to house artists at work.  Former art center students and teachers created the Wooster School Community of Potters to promote ceramic arts in the Danbury area and to allow advanced students a studio in which to create their work.

The Wooster School Community of Potters (WSCP) will give the Wooster students and amateur potters the hands on experience of clay and to learn about the various properties of clay; The WSCP exists to develop, sustain, and promote an artist-centered community that provides outstanding artistic, educational, and collaborative programs in ceramic arts.

• To provide affordable studio space, ceramic equipment, and professional development opportunities that will encourage participation by professional and advanced amateur ceramic artists who produce work of the highest quality

• To provide potters with the equipment, glazes, kilns, exhibitions and necessary support services to enhance their skills and to improve their access to Litchfield and Fairfield counties’ artistic communities.

• To develop programs with artists and community organizations that bring clay experiences into the lives of Wooster students

• To offer hand-on studio classes in all aspects of pottery, clay sculpture, and ceramic processes for Wooster students and members taught by working artists, and to provide scholarship and work-study opportunities for students enrolling in classes

• To present on and off-site exhibitions of the work of WSCP ceramic artists free and open to the public
